Meet Volunteer: Laurie Porter
Laurie Porter is one of our most dedicated volunteers at The Center for Active Living. She embodies the true spirit of volunteering—a heart committed to serving others with love, care and gratitude.
Laurie began volunteering at Margie’s Café in 2023 and has been an outstanding member of our team. When you visit Margie’s Café on any Wednesday afternoon, you’ll be greeted by Laurie’s warm smile and vibrant energy. Laurie also steps in where needed, including taking on major tasks to make our Annual Fundraising Breakfast earlier this year a success.
When asked about her passion for volunteering, Laurie credits her dad with instilling a sense of community service. She finds joy in connecting with members, guests and staff at The Center. “Volunteering gives me a sense of purpose and fulfillment,” she says. “It allows me to help others, make a positive impact and contribute to the wellbeing of my community.”
Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Laurie landed in West Seattle with her husband in 2017. She has lived in many U.S. cities, as well as Germany and Singapore. She enjoyed a more than 20-year career as an event planner for nonprofits like the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver, Project C.U.R.E. and most recently, Mary’s Place in Seattle.
Laurie is a uniquely talented person who radiates brilliance, and we are fortunate to have her volunteer with us.
