Community Connections: Farewell to a Beloved Changemaker

We recently lost a vibrant soul in our community, Dennis Jackson. Many of you knew Dennis from exercise classes, hanging out at Margie’s Café or joyfully making the social rounds with his wife Cynthia.

He was also a dedicated leader, serving on The Center’s Board (2020-2023) and founding the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee in 2020, where he remained an active member until his passing. Dennis helped shape a more welcoming, inclusive Center through initiatives like guest speakers, our anti-racist code of conduct, a land acknowledgement and ongoing learning opportunities for Board, staff and members.

He brought heart and vision to everything he did. His work also extended beyond The Center as a docent at The Northwest African American Museum and a community-builder at his church. Kind, wise, passionate and deeply committed, Dennis leaves a lasting legacy. And his impact will continue to be felt. We honor him by continuing his work in advancing education, uplifting diverse voices and fostering meaningful conversations.
